Awinter storm warning has been issued for parts of Montana and Wyoming with heavy snow and high winds expected.
The National Weather Service (NWS) said that snow accumulations between 1 and 2 feet could be seen in Absaroka/Beartooth Mountains, with wind gusts reaching 35 mph.
It added that snow rates could exceed one inch per hour in the Bitterroot/Sapphire Mountains above 5,000 feet, and that snow accumulations will vary depending on elevation.
NWS forecasters said: “Travel could be very difficult to impossible. The hazardous conditions could impact the Thursday morning commute. Heavy, wet snow accumulating on trees with their leaves out could weigh them down and cause significant tree damage and possibly power outages.
“If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.” The winter storm warning is to remain in effect until Friday, 6 a.m. local time.
