2 dead, more than a dozen injured in 3 Alabama mass shootings Sunday

The Gun Violence Archive lists any shooting with four or more victims as a mass shooting.

So far, according to the Gun Violence Archive, there have been more than 145 mass shootings in 2024.

Three of those mass shootings took place in Alabama on Sunday.

Tuscaloosa
One man is in custody after a shooting left one person dead and three others injured.

The Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit said the shooting happened about 1 a.m. Sunday at a house on 58th Street East.

The TVCU stated people were gathered at the house when someone was asked to leave, and soon after, shots were fired from outside the house into an open doorway, striking the victims.

One person, identified as Donavin Ryans, 30, was killed in the shooting, said authorities.

Birmingham
One person is dead and multiple people are injured after a shootout at a gas station in Birmingham early Sunday morning.

Birmingham police are trying to piece together how this incident escalated. WVTM 13 was able to join detectives as they watched security camera footage and gathered new details.

Dozens of people were gathered at the Shell gas station on Third Avenue West, according to Birmingham police. A shootout between two groups broke out around 2:30 a.m.

Investigators found a man dead inside a car that crashed into a utility pole. Police identified him as 24-year-old David Westbrook of Birmingham.

Police then discovered another man shot near a parking lot a few feet away. Birmingham’s fire and rescue crews took him to UAB Hospital with life-threatening injuries. Police said five other men arrived at Princeton and UAB Hospitals on their own by private vehicles.

Huntsville
Police in Huntsville are investigating after five people were shot Sunday night.

The shooting happened near a bar on Poplar Avenue. Two of the five victims have life-threatening injuries.

No arrests have been made at this time.
