A nurse who refused to get the Covid-19 vaccine during the pandemic has been fired despite the vaccination mandate being lifted.

Casey officially lost her job at Prince Charles Hospital in Brisbane last week, more than two years after she refused to be jabbed with the required two doses of the vaccine.

‘When the mandate came into affect, my daughter had been born but I was still breastfeeding and I was having a few medical issues at the time,’ she said.

Healthcare workers in Queensland were ordered to be fully vaccinated against the virus by the state government in 2021.

Thousands of nurses and frontline healthcare workers were placed on leave during the peak of the pandemic for refusing the jab.

The government revoked the vaccine mandates in 2022 with many workers, including Casey, left awaiting a decision on their employment status.
