A university janitor allegedly turned off a super cold laboratory freezer after repeated “annoying alarms,” resulting in the destruction of $1 million worth of scientific research, according to a lawsuit filed in the New York.
The laboratory contained a freezer which housed numerous cell cultures and samples that had to be stored at a temperature of -112 degrees fahrenheit — a fluctuation of just three degrees could cause “catastrophic damage.”
