San Diego migrant welcome center to close next week

“As the number of migrants arriving at the center has increased significantly over the last few weeks, our finite resources have been stretched to the limit, leading to the closure of the center on February 22.”

Over 1 million migrant encounters reported this fiscal year, sources say
Last year, the county of San Diego allocated a total of $6 million for SBCS to operate the welcome center — $3 million issued in October and another $3 million approved in December.

“With the receipt of that money there was expectations that it would be used until the end of March, so ending a month early does raise concerns and questions for me.”
