Fulton County prosecutors face scrutiny in Trump’s election interference case.

Sharing is Caring!

In a tangled legal web, the Fulton County district attorney’s office seeks to quash subpoenas targeting top prosecutors in the 2020 election interference case involving former President Trump. The move comes after allegations of romantic ties between District Attorney Fani Willis and special prosecutor Nathan Wade, prompting Trump’s co-defendants to subpoena them and their colleagues for a hearing on February 15.

Accusations of a “personal relationship” were admitted by both Willis and Wade, but the district attorney’s office dismisses the calls for their removal as baseless. The legal saga takes another turn as Trump responds to Willis’s claim that her recent speech at Big Bethel AME Church in Atlanta was not directed at the election interference case.

In the legal reply filed in Fulton County Superior Court, Trump’s attorneys align with co-defendant Michael Roman’s efforts to dismiss Willis and Wade. Roman’s motion alleges an “improper, clandestine relationship” and accuses them of profiting significantly from the prosecution at taxpayers’ expense.

Trump’s initial motion, filed on January 25, specifically addresses Willis’s actions during the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday weekend. It accuses her of injecting race into the case, fostering racial animus during her speech at Bethel AME Church, and creating substantial prejudice towards the defendants. The motion portrays her pursuit of racially-based sympathy as a “self-inflicted quagmire.”
