Iceland volcano – latest: Country’s ‘biggest bulldozer’ dispatched to build defences as town’s electricity supply cuts out

Sharing is Caring!

Dr Michele Paulatto, from Imperial College in London, told Sky News seismic activity is continuing on the Icelandic peninsula, causing almost ‘continuous’ earthquakes.

He said: “The seismic activity is continuing, so there’s continuous earthquakes – they’re not very large at the moment, but they mean that the magma is still moving and that the system is still active.”

Dr Paulatto explained the Earth has to open up to let the magma come to the surface, which causes the earthquakes and surface cracks.

He also said it is not guaranteed the volcano will erupt – but the danger is still there.
