Have a plan of action for crisis situations that does not rely on U.S. government assistance. The best time to leave a country is before a crisis, if at all possible. U.S. military-assisted evacuations of civilians from a foreign country are rare. There is no guarantee the U.S. government will evacuate private U.S. citizens and their family members in a crisis situation. Embassy Beirut’s Consular Section is open for emergency U.S. citizen services, including passport services, on a walk-in basis between 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. It is currently only issuing emergency passports, which are valid for one year. Israeli airstrikes targeted Hezbollah positions in Lebanon on Saturday, marking the most intense border skirmishes in 17 years.
The clashes erupted following a series of rocket attacks launched by the terrorist group into northern Israel.
The escalation of tensions raised concerns about the potential for the conflict to spill over into a broader regional confrontation.
Just a day earlier, Hezbollah’s assertive leader, Hassan Nasrallah, had issued threats of escalating the conflict with Israel, warning of an impending ‘true battle.’
Hezbollah, a well-armed organization with backing from Iran, executed coordinated assaults on Israeli positions along the Lebanese border, while residents in southern Lebanon reported the most severe Israeli airstrikes they had witnessed to date.
