On Christmas Day, a terrifying incident unfolded outside Macy’s in Herald Square, New York City. A taxi, driven by a 58-year-old man, jumped the curb and struck multiple pedestrians around 4 p.m. on the busy West 34th Street and Sixth Avenue, a popular area teeming with holiday shoppers. The driver reportedly suffered a medical episode, causing him to lose control of the vehicle.
Seven people were injured, including a 9-year-old boy and several women, ages 19, 37, 41, and 49. While injuries ranged from cuts and bruises to more severe wounds like a leg injury and a head injury, fortunately, none were life-threatening. The victims were swiftly taken to nearby hospitals, including Weill Cornell Medical Center and Bellevue Hospital.
The scene was chaotic, with bystanders and emergency responders rushing to help. The damaged taxi, with broken parts scattered across the sidewalk, remained as police investigated the cause. The NYPD confirmed the driver had experienced a medical episode, though the exact cause of the crash is still under investigation.
