The shocking attack on Nick Fuentes has shaken the community. John R. Lyons, a 24-year-old from Westchester, Illinois, is responsible for the attempt on Fuentes’ life. But it’s worse—earlier that day, Lyons had already killed three people in Mahomet, Illinois, and left a trail of horror before targeting Fuentes.
Lyons killed Janis L. Mason, 61, and her children, Caleb M. Mason, 23, and Sara E. Mason, 26. After that, he fled to Berwyn, where he broke into a home, killed two dogs, and engaged in a deadly shootout with police, ultimately being shot dead by officers. It’s a nightmare of violence, one that feels almost too much to absorb.
What makes this even more chilling is the fact that Lyons specifically sought out Fuentes. After killing three people, he stood at Fuentes’ door, ringing the bell and calling for him. It raises the question: why? Was this violence driven by extremist ideology? The premeditation of it all is terrifying.
Fuentes, now deeply concerned for his safety, has turned to his followers for help. He’s asking for $13,000 a week to cover 24-hour security costs. It’s disturbing to think that public figures must live in constant fear of violent extremists.
The investigation into Lyons’ actions is ongoing, but one thing is clear: extremist violence is real, and it’s happening now. We need to confront this growing threat head-on before more lives are lost.
The killer parked his car in front of my house and approached my door with his pistol drawn and what appears to be a crossbow. I was livestreaming at the time.
