South Korea faces a population collapse with a 0.68 fertility rate in 2024. 2/3 of Korea will disappear every generation.

Sharing is Caring!

South Korea’s fertility rate for 2024 is projected at 0.74 births per woman, a slight increase from 0.72 in 2023. Despite this small improvement, the rate remains dangerously below the replacement level of 2.1, indicating a looming population collapse. Experts warn that without significant intervention, two-thirds of South Korea’s population could disappear with each generation.

The fertility rate has been in steady decline since 2015, reaching its lowest point in 2023. It fell below one child per woman for the first time in 2018. While the uptick to 0.74 is the first rise in nearly a decade, it offers little hope of reversing the overall downward trajectory.

Deaths now outpace births, accelerating the population decline. Projections suggest South Korea’s population could shrink by half by 2100. This demographic crisis threatens the nation’s economy, workforce, and social stability. The government has declared it a “national emergency,” reflecting the severity of the situation.
