Antisemitic riots have erupted in Amsterdam, marked by violent attacks on vehicles, pedestrians, and reports of arson. The riots are linked to escalating tensions following a soccer match on November 7, 2024, between Israeli club Maccabi Tel Aviv and Dutch team AFC Ajax. After the match, pro-Palestinian protesters and Maccabi Tel Aviv fans clashed, resulting in rioters setting a tram on fire and physically assaulting Israeli supporters.

The violence persisted the following day, targeting Jewish residents and vandalizing property, prompting Dutch authorities to take action. By November 9, several people had been injured, with the mayor of Amsterdam declaring parts of the city as risk zones and banning demonstrations. Dutch Prime Minister Dick Schoof condemned the violence and promised to hold those responsible accountable. Amsterdam’s mayor expressed deep concern over the antisemitic attacks, calling the events a “black night and a dark day.”

International leaders, including Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, strongly condemned the violence, urging increased protections for Jewish communities. Meanwhile, Amsterdam’s Jewish residents have been advised to remain vigilant, with local community leaders calling for stronger measures to prevent further incidents. Dutch police are conducting thorough investigations, and additional security forces have been deployed throughout Amsterdam to restore order and protect residents.
