Pipeline fire near La Porte, Texas, causes evacuations as flames reach hundreds of feet high.

There is a large pipeline fire in the Deer Park area near La Porte, Texas. The fire started around 10 a.m. local time near Spencer Highway and East Boulevard.

Emergency crews are on the scene, and there are reports of flames reaching several hundred feet high. Evacuations are underway for residents in the Brookglen neighborhood, particularly between Luella and Canada roads. Additionally, medivac helicopters are en route to assist.

The lack of wind is helping to keep the smoke from spreading beyond the immediate area. Local schools and some facilities have been placed under shelter-in-place orders.
