Amazon plans to close two facilities in California, potentially impacting hundreds of employees. According to public notices filed Sept 6, the Seattle-based e-commerce company plans to shutter a warehouse in Irvine, which will affect 162 employees, and a separate facility in West Sacramento, which will affect another 159 employees. The WARN documents, generally required in the event of mass layoffs, list several affected job titles including shippers and packers, and operations directors.
“We’re always evaluating our network to make sure it fits our business needs and to improve the experience for our employees, customers and partners,” Amazon spokesman Sam Stephenson said in a statement to SFGATE. “As part of that effort, we’ve decided not to renew the lease at our facilities.”
