The White House partners with attorneys general from 31 states to combat price gouging in food markets

The White House, in partnership with attorneys general from 31 states and the District of Columbia, has launched an enforcement initiative to combat price-gouging and other anticompetitive practices in food and agricultural markets. This historic effort aims to address higher prices and limited choices for consumers and producers. The Agriculture Department will provide expertise and funding to support state attorneys general in taking on complex cases and conducting research to lay the groundwork for future legal actions. The participating attorneys general include both Democrats and Republicans. By ramping up enforcement of antitrust and consumer protection laws, this collaboration seeks to curb conduct like price fixing or price gouging in grocery retail markets, meat and poultry processing, and other agricultural sectors.
