There have been recent developments regarding flights over the Black Sea. Russia issued an international notice to pilots (NOTAM) creating no-fly zones over Crimea and parts of the Black Sea from April 20th to 24th. The purpose of these zones was to practice convoy protection and surface attack drills. Additionally, a dramatic encounter occurred between Russian fighter jets and a U.S. MQ-9 Reaper drone over the Black Sea. The U.S. military reported that the Russian fighter jet harassed and collided with the drone, leading to its forced descent in international waters. Russia denied direct contact with the drone but expressed its intention to recover its remains.
