The Rapidan Dam in Minnesota experienced a partial failure, resulting in the Hruska family house collapsing into the Blue Earth River on Tuesday night. Videos circulating online captured the gasps of onlookers as the house, which had stood for over 100 years, tumbled into the rushing river below. Neighbors and friends have rallied to support the family through a GoFundMe campaign, raising nearly $34,000 toward their $500,000 goal from over 550 donations. The establishment next door, the Rapidan Dam Store, also faces the risk of being swept away. Local authorities had previously warned of the dam’s “immediate failure condition” due to major flooding and rain. The Rapidan Dam, built more than a century ago, has been managed by Blue Earth County for the past 46 years, but multiple flood events over time have damaged its structure and usability.
