2 dead, 7 injured in Centreville mass shooting; investigation underway

A deadly mass shooting in Centreville is under investigation after two people were killed and seven others were shot early Saturday morning.
According to the Wilkinson County Sheriff’s Office, the shooting happened around 12:55 a.m. on July 4 near the Orchard Café on Highway 24 within the city limits of Centreville.

Authorities say Wilkinson County E-911 Dispatch received a call from Fields Health System after multiple gunshot victims arrived at the emergency room in private vehicles. Deputy O.J. Packnett responded to assist the Centreville Police Department.
Investigators determined that nine people had suffered gunshot wounds during the incident. Two adult Black men died from their injuries. Three other victims were transported to an out-of-area trauma center for additional treatment, while four were treated and later released.
The Centreville Police Department, with assistance from the Wilkinson County Sheriff’s Office and other law enforcement agencies, is processing the crime scene, interviewing witnesses and following investigative leads. Officials say the investigation remains active and ongoing.
