$36 trillion in debt, and where did it all go? Look no further than the Pentagon

$36 trillion in debt—and it’s all disappeared into a black hole known as the Pentagon. The numbers are so staggering that they barely make sense, but there they are: In 2019 alone, the Department of Defense somehow adjusted $35 trillion. That’s right, $35 trillion. This is far beyond the previous year’s $30.7 trillion, and it easily dwarfs the $738 billion allocated in the latest U.S. defense budget.

$35 trillion in adjustments? What are we even talking about here? According to Todd Harrison from the Center for Strategic and International Studies, these aren’t errors. These are “double, triple, and quadruple counting” of the same money, moving it around between different Pentagon accounts. 562,568 adjustments made in 2018. Think about that for a second: Half a million tweaks to a budget that’s already massive, and the Pentagon still can’t balance its books.

And where’s the outrage? Where’s the accountability? Instead, it’s just business as usual—more spending, more debt, and absolutely no transparency. The Pentagon can’t even pass an audit, let alone explain where all our money is going.

The latest news? The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) is coming for the Pentagon. They’ve already started firing “probationary employees” at various federal departments, and the DOD is next on the chopping block. The Pentagon’s nearly 1 million civilian employees are about to face a mass termination, and no one really knows how many of them will be out on the street.

But here’s the kicker: Uniformed service members are exempt. It’s only the bureaucrats—the ones pushing woke policies and ineffective programs—that are going to be shown the door. And that might not be such a bad thing, considering how much bloated bureaucratic nonsense is sitting in the Pentagon while our military readiness continues to erode.

Pete Hegseth, the current Secretary of Defense, is reportedly planning to remove generals and senior officers tied to the military’s obsession with DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) initiatives. This isn’t about politics—this is about restoring focus on actual military lethality and winning wars. Trump’s vision of a stronger military, centered on meritocracy rather than ideological posturing, is exactly what’s needed to turn things around.

And if that wasn’t enough, President Trump has just announced that Pete Hegseth will have the authority to investigate any politician suspected of corruption. This is huge. Not only are we cleaning up the military, but now Hegseth has the power to hold corrupt politicians accountable. The swamp is about to get drained, and no one is safe—not from the Pentagon, not from Congress, and not from anyone who’s been hiding behind the taxpayer dollar for too long.

The Pentagon has spent too long wrapped up in “woke” policies instead of preparing to defend the country. It’s time for a change. Let’s stop rewarding the bureaucratic elite and focus on the people who actually matter: the warfighters who keep us safe.
